San Diego unemployment rate of 3.8 percent lowest since December of 2006

18,200 more nonfarm jobs since a year ago

The unemployment rate in San Diego County was 3.8 percent in April, down from a revised 4.2 percent in March.

According to Emerson Figueroa of the Employment Development Department, the 3.8 percent is the lowest since the 3.7 percent rate in December of 2006, well before the Great Recession of late 2007 to early 2009.

County nonfarm jobs increased by 1100 in April. The largest gain was in leisure and hospitality, up 2100 in the month. Construction jobs rose by 1500. Professional and business services recorded the largest decline, 1800 in the month.

Year over year, construction was the biggest gainer, adding 6300 jobs. Total nonfarm jobs rose by 18,200, or 1.3 percent from April of last year.
