Surf Pups of San Diego classes

Paddling next to Liberty Station with your best friend

Everything is done in shallow water.

Samantha Lee of SUP Pups of San Diego came to town from Arizona, and like most folks that find the beach from the desert, she hit the water and stand up paddle-boarding became her favorite activity. After taking her dog Jack along, she decided to share her new passion and started SUP Pups and began offering classes on paddling with a dog.

After the basic instruction, an hour tour takes you under the North Harbor Bridge near the Navy Dolphin Training Facility.

Amantha will provide a doggie life vest. After some basic paddling instruction (ab crunch, booty squat, stand and pull!) for the human, she’ll introduce the dog to the board. Everything is done in shallow water just deep enough to cushion the falls until master and pet have it down, then it’s off to paddle the bay.

One can go from never being on a SUP to paddling confidently with their dog in a one-hour lesson. Small to medium-sized pets are better suited for the activity, though large dogs can ride a SUP successfully. At $55 per lesson, more than one session is doable if needed. Dog treats, GoPro photos of your day and water are included with the lesson.
