Andrew Meaux makes the commute two to three times every week. Meaux had finished surfing near Crystal Pier in Pacific Beach when I caught up to him. The beach was fairly vacant and the skies were cloudy..

“[The conditions] are just okay right now, not too good. It’s summer, so the waves aren’t going to be that big, it’s going to be so-so. But it’s still fun, a day out in the water.”

Meaux started surfing at the age of twelve but only seriously started surfing a couple of years ago.

“Yeah, I just got hooked. I’m a snowboarder, too, and I can’t always go snowboarding, so I surf instead.”

“I like P.B. I’ve been coming here more often because it’s better than anywhere else. Scripps, La Jolla, Black’s, Windansea, and Sunset Cliffs are also good.”

“There’s always those people in the water that are super competitive. It’s more like that towards the pier, but as long as you know what you’re doing and you have surf etiquette, it won’t be a big deal.”
