Piano-based alt-rockers Imagery Machine debuts their second EP Skydriver on July 27, at Soda Bar. “The set will include songs from both EPs, some Led Zeppelin and Prince covers, and extra special face paint and glitter, of course,” says singer Jennie Lynn. Recorded, mixed, and mastered in San Diego by Brad Lee at SDRL, the EP’s first single, “Higher Tides,” features Will Parsons of Grim Slippers. The quartet’s current lineup includes Lynn on vocals and guitar, along with James Howard (lead guitar, bass), Tyler Shimkus (drums, percussion), and returning singer/keyboardist Daechelle Hernandez.

Acoustic country soul group Vinyl Moods began last year as an intended wedding band but has now recorded a debut EP set to premiere on July 29 at 710 Beach Club.

A.J. Croce’s ninth studio full-length, Just Like Medicine, dropping August 11 via Compass Records, includes his recording of an unreleased song by his father Jim Croce, “The Name of the Game.” Another track is co-written with the late Leon Russell, and guest players include Steve Cropper, Vince Gill, and the McCrary Sisters.

Cavity Search, the new CD from punk-ska rockers Mandoshanks, features the trio tearing through 14 tracks, backed by guest players like Wade Youman from Unwritten Law. For the August 11 release party at Soma, “Wade will be present to sing his featured track,” says drummer/singer Ron Rascal Rascal says the show should be of interest to anyone who likes Bad Religion or the Descendents, and the bill includes locals of a similar sonic bent: Sculpins and D.P.I. aka Drunkin’ Punkin’ Idiots.

Due August 25 from Tom Brosseau, Treasures Untold is the acoustic crooner’s first official live album, and fourth release on Crossbill Records. Featuring six songs from the Great American Folk Songbook (covering the Carter Family, Elizabeth Cotten, Jimmie Rodgers, and Rev. Gary Davis), and four original compositions (as well as several monologues between tracks), a limited edition will be pressed on clear 180-gram vinyl. He’ll be on tour when the album drops, but he promises to showcase it at Java Joe’s when he swings through the Old Town coffeehouse on September 7.
