Unusual promotions for 2016 San Diego Beer Week

Dogs, donuts, and election results

San Diego Beer Week returns for the eighth year in 2016, running ten days from Friday, November 4 through Sunday, November 13. Hundreds of special taplists and cross promotional events will take place at bars, restaurants, and breweries across San Diego, with most of them focused solely on beer.

However, some get a little more creative. Here's a sampling of unique events promoting San Diego beer in November.

Donut Pairing Events
Donuts seem to have become the beer pairing du jour — Food Network–famous Donut Bar even installed a craft beer taproom this year. Several beer week events offer beer week donut pairings as an excuse to start drinking early in the day.

Coronado Brewing 1205 Knoxville Street Saturday, November 5, 10am–1pm Donuts provided by Nomad Donuts, Coffee by Bird Rock Coffee,

Thorn Street Brewery 3176 Thorn Street Sunday, November 6, 11am–1pm, $20 Donuts provided by Nomad Donuts

Beer Classes
Some people just drink beer, some like to learn about the beer they drink. For the latter, a number of events are designed to educate the casual beer drinker in beer styles, flavors, and history.

Off-Flavor Training Course San Diego State University 5500 Campanile Drive Monday, November 7, 6–7:30pm, $49

IPA Style Course OB Warehouse Tuesday November 8, 6:30–8:30pm, $40

Beer 101 North Park Beer Company 3038 University Ave, San Diego, CA 92104 Thursday, November 10, 6–9pm, $10

Beer School CoinHaus Saturday, November 5th & 12th, 2016 1–3pm, $25

Second Chance Craft Flea Market
Second Chance Beer Company 15378 Avenue of Science #222 Sunday November 6, 1–5pm. Upcycled crafts are the focus of the market being hosted within Second Chance's Carmel Mountain brewery, meaning they were created out of discarded materials, including beer bottles and cans.

Bikes, Brews and Brats
Cal Coast Bicycles 3020 Adams Avenue Saturday, November 5, 9am–2pm, $55. Perhaps designed to burn off a few of those extra beer calories, this Green Flash event involves an "urban mountain bike ride" that runs along city streets and a few off-road trails around Balboa Park.

Danksauce & Dogs
Quartyard 1102 Market Street Sunday, November 13, 11am–3pm. For the second year, Modern Times is staging an unconventional dog show, handing out prizes for doggy looks, tricks and costumes, while dog owners drink beer.

Fishing with Brewers
Fathom Bistro, Bait & Tackle 1776 Shelter Island Drive Monday, November 7th, 10am–4pm, $80. A fishing pole, bait, tackle, and a couple of meals are included in this day of fishing off Fathom's Shelter Island Pier, plus all you can drink (responsibly) beer. Prizes for biggest, most, and greatest variety of fish caught.

Beer for President
2kids Brewing Company 8680 Miralani Dr #123 Tuesday, November 8, 3–11pm. If you think beer week and election day seem like the perfect match, join 2kids for what hopefully will be a night of positive election results — they're offering half-price pints if you bring your voter receipt or "I Voted" sticker.
