Lucy's Fur Coat cancels Friday and Saturday, Dragons host rock and roll memorial on Sunday

The long awaited return of Lucy’s Fur Coat planned for this Friday and Saturday at the Casbah has been postponed.

The first Lucy's show in seven years featuring all original members has been canceled due to a medical condition connected with guitarist Tony Sanfilippo. The decision was made on Sunday to postpone the shows.

Lucy’s Fur Coat, once signed to Relativity/Sony, thrived locally from 1993 to 2000.

In other sad San Diego scene news, Steven Rodriguez, longtime bassist for the Dragons became ill suddenly and died July 21. Rodriguez, 48, is survived by his wife Jamie and a son Jesse.

Steve Rodriguez Memorial Concert

  • Casbah, 2501 Kettner Boulevard, San Diego

A memorial concert is planned for Sunday, August 2 at the Casbah featuring Mario Escovedo, Ken Horne, and Jarrod Lucas (all fellow Dragons), as well as members of Rodriguez' other band Saint Shameless. Also set to appear are Uncle Joe's Big Ol' Driver, Steve Poltz, and DJs Dennis Borleck and Louis Mello. The memorial for Rodriguez begins at 7 p.m.

There is a $15 door donation. There are no advance ticket sales. A gofundme account set up to benefit Steve's son Jesse Rodriguez has already raised more than $5000 (gofundme.com/SRluv). Contributions are still welcome.
