UCSD is out to change the world, the tax-funded university says on a recent job posting, but it will take more than a few more dollars to get there. “Professionals working within University Development at UC San Diego have a unique opportunity to partner with some of the world’s greatest minds on such high-profile initiatives as: Education Reform; Drugs from the Sea; Brain Activity Mapping; International Entrepreneurism; [and] Global Economic Transformation,” says the notice. But, it adds, “continuing progress depends on ever-greater commitment of philanthropic support.” One more new fundraising staffer is sought to specialize in “identifying, engaging, cultivating and stewarding the philanthropic partners capable of assuring this university’s brightest future.” The salary range is from $50,722 to $60,000 a year.

Meanwhile, across town at San Diego State University, school sports officials are advertising for a “Player Development Coordinator” to handle video production for the women’s basketball team. The holder of the job will provide “video of Department of Athletics events for various media outlets,” according to the announcement. The staffer will also make videos of “strength and conditioning workouts for inclusion in Web design and on-campus visit highlights,” as well as “record all women’s basketball athletic events that are aired on television,” and “create and maintain a video library of all women’s basketball events.”
