The County of San Diego is getting ready to shoot a series of video extravaganzas extolling the recreational amenities of the south of Interstate 8 supervisorial district represented by Republican Greg Cox. “The San Diego County Department of Parks and Recreation is seeking a documentary film maker to create a web and DVD film series about the southern portion of San Diego County which encompasses the first supervisorial district spanning from downtown San Diego to the Baja, California border,” says a December 29 request for quotations.

Topics are to include “Bird watching in south county San Diego,” “The Tijuana River Valley trail system highlighting hiking, biking, and equestrian opportunities,” and “Chollas Creek improvements and recreation enhancements.” Also on the list: “San Diego County Waterfront Park activities, event, and community offerings.”

The downtown park, spearheaded by Cox’s fellow Republican supervisor Ron Roberts, engendered controversy this fall when U-T San Diego, owned by wealthy GOP bigwig Douglas Manchester of La Jolla, highlighted water use at the fountains there, heavily patronized by low-income families from poorer parts of town.
