Political labors

Joel Anderson (right) ramps up his campaign for Dianne Jacob’s county supervisor seat by advertising for free labor.

State senator Joel Anderson, preparing for a political wrestling match with fellow Republican Dianne Jacob for her county supervisorial seat next year, is on the prowl for a few new student interns. “Leapfrog your peers through Senator Joel Anderson’s award winning internship program and gain professional experience to help you stand out to future employers,” says an online help-wanted advertisement.

“Regardless of your future career path, the internship program will help you sharpen your public speaking, writing, networking, and professional office skills.” According to the notice, “We also have a media department where interns have the opportunity to research, write, and polish articles for publication in local newspapers, our newsletter, and select online outlets.”

Concludes the ad, “Upon completion, you will be eligible to receive a letter of recommendation from the Senator himself, as well as a certificate of recognition!” A salary is not part of the package.
