Enough for L.A.-San Diego sidewalk

Downtown residents are being warned to expect a major disturbance on Saturday morning, as work crews will be pouring concrete for the slab of a new headquarters building for Sempra Energy.

Partial street closures will affect 7th, 8th, and Island Avenues as well as J Street as every available cement truck in San Diego County descends upon the work site, continually delivering loads from 6:30 a.m. until about 2:30 in the afternoon. Residents are told to anticipate heavy traffic and high noise levels during the project.

In all, 6,500 cubic yards of concrete will be poured in the eight-hour window — enough to pave a four-foot-wide sidewalk from San Diego to Los Angeles.
