Summer Youth Media & Tech Camps at Media Arts Center

The Madea Arts Center

Other than films screened at the Digital Gym and San Diego Latino Film Festival, it’s been too long since The Big Screen has plugged any of the more academic pursuits put forth by the Media Arts Center.

Their upcoming Summer Youth Media & Tech Camps is a good place to start. Do the words iMovie, GarageBand, iStopMotion, or green screen mean anything to you? If not, try running them past your kids. Should ears perk, here’s a way to give them a head start on art.

The weeklong summer camps for kids ages 7-18 will be held June 16-20, June 23-27, June 30-July 3, July 7-11, July 14-18, July 21-25, July 28-August 1, August 4-8, August 11-15, and August 18-22. At the end of each camp week, family and friends are invited to watch a screening of the camper’s video in the Digital Gym’s 48-seat cinema.

Classes are held Monday-Friday, 8:30am-3pm, at MACSD’s Digital Gym in North Park. Is it worth $245 a week ($205 for MACSD members), to get your kids out of the house and doing something better than watching video games for a week?

Think of it: your son or daughter could be the next Tyler Perry (actually, if that’s the case, better they remain housebound).

Space is limited. For more information visit the Media Arts Center.
