An army, more or less, at least based on the latest job announcement from UC San Diego Health Sciences. “The current needs for campaign recruitment include four seasoned development professionals in the areas of Cancer, Orthopedics, Neurosciences/Stem Cell/Healthy Aging and Health Sciences,” says the help-wanted notice. “Under the direction of the Executive Director of Development-Health Sciences, the Director of Development will be responsible for securing major gifts ($100,000 and above) for priorities identified by Health Sciences leadership… Special emphasis will be placed on creating and implementing strategies for successful solicitations and building strategic relationships with academic and medical center faculty and staff.” Targeting likely cash cows is also said to be important, including “demonstrated knowledge in the technique of donor prospect research with the ability to extract the pertinent/critical information from various sources.” No prospective salaries are provided. The latest recruitment campaign comes less than a month after UCSD hired new vice chancellor of advancement Steve Gamer, who is getting a total of $455,792 in his first year to “cultivate” and solicit wealthy potential university donors.

… Customers of Bring It To Me, a restaurant delivery service based in Pacific Beach, got sent some bad news recently. “Our online ordering software provider, Big Tree Solutions, recently informed us that they identified unauthorized modifications in their software that could potentially allow new payment credit card information entered between October 14, 2013 and January 13, 2014 to have been obtained by an unauthorized user,” says a January 28 letter from the service posted online by the state attorney general’s office. “We are truly sorry this potential exposure of payment card information may have occurred.”
