PriceSmart suspends accounts of Cuban officials

Says it is merely complying with U.S. law

PriceSmart Jamaica, subsidiary of San Diego's PriceSmart, suspended the accounts of residents and staff of the Cuban Embassy and consular offices in Jamaica, according to the publication Gleaner.

PriceSmart has warehouse clubs throughout much of Latin America. The company says it was complying with U.S. law prohibiting transactions with citizens of Cuba who do not have permanent residency in Jamaica or another country. The embassy of Cuba says it will soon make a statement on the company's action.
