Potted plans

Former San Diego medical-pot pioneer Corey Barnette resurfaced in Massachusetts, where he’s applied for a license to peddle his “greater cannabis and cannabis-infused products.”

A noted pioneer of San Diego’s cannabis industry has turned up on an application for a medical pot license in Massachusetts by an outfit called Bay State Holistic. “Executive Director Corey Barnette brings 12 years of total nonprofit experience, including significant experience with cannabis dispensaries,” the application notes. “Mr. Barnette served as Executive Director of the San Diego Medical Collective, a nonprofit medical cannabis dispensary in San Diego, and later founded Chi Holistic, a nonprofit medical cannabis dispensary in San Diego California. Both dispensaries also featured cultivation center operations that provided greater cannabis and cannabis-infused products to their combined over 12,000-person patient base.” He left town after those establishments closed “due to rezoning of dispensaries in San Diego.”

Holder of an MBA degree from Duke University’s Fuqua School of Business, Barnette once worked as a vice president in the Disadvantaged Business Corporate Banking Group at Bank of America, according to his resume… With two highly partisan San Diego city council races coming up in June, campaign committees for both Republicans and Democrats are vying mightily for special interest cash. Earlier this month Democrats collected $1500 each from the Deputy Sheriffs’ Association of San Diego County PAC and the San Diego County Probation Officers PAC. $5000 came from the United Domestic Workers of America Action Fund. Bridgepoint Education, Inc., the controversial private school provider, split the difference, giving $2500 to the GOP and $3000 to Democrats.
