Lone star big oil rover

Kevin Faulconer is riding high on Texas oil money.

In addition to his Pickens connection, mayoral candidate and city councilman Kevin Faulconer has been collecting big cash from others tied to the Lone Star state. City campaign disclosure records show that David M. Grimes II and his wife Windi of Houston each kicked in the $1000 maximum. Three years ago, the couple was the toast of Houston with some down-home Republican-style nature fundraising. “Three cheers for Windi and David Grimes, Laurie and Reed Morian and P.J. and Pat Murphy for their wildly successful Texas Conservation Hall of Fame Dinner at the Hyatt Regency,” blogged Culturemap Houston’s Shelby Hodge. “With 530 guests, Karl Rove as emcee and a hunting trip with Boone Pickens on the auction block, this baby brought in well over $900,000.… They supped on quail poppers and filet mignon and danced to the sounds of the famed Red Steagall and his Boys in the Bunkhouse.” Windi Grimes, born Windi Phillips, grew up on the storied Four Sixes Ranch in north Texas. She is the daughter of Anne Burnett Windfohr Marion, known in Texas oil circles as “Little Anne,” daughter of Anne Valliant Burnett Tandy, “Big Anne”, heiress to the legendary Burnett ranching and oil fortune.
