Navy scandal expands

The scandal surrounding Singapore-based Glenn David Marine Asia, and the gifts the company provided to Navy personnel in exchange for luxury living and prostitutes, expanded yesterday, December 17.

Supervisory special agent John Bertrand Beliveau pleaded guilty to bribery charges. Over several years, he provided information to Leonard Glenn Francis, who heads the Singapore company about ongoing Navy criminal investigations — thus helping Francis dodge getting caught. In return, Beliveau was given cash and treated to luxury travel, prostitutes, lavish dinners, and entertainment.

Beliveau is one of five Navy officials and civilian contractors implicated in the widening scandal, which cost the Navy (i.e., taxpayers) millions of dollars.
