SummerFest Finale with James Conlon

The La Jolla Music Society’s Summerfest is scheduled to end with a grand finale on August 23rd. Maestro James Conlon was to be the conductor for this concluding concert.

Conlon is a major figure in Southern California as the music director of Los Angeles Opera. Conlon is also the director of the Chicago Symphony’s summer home at the Ravinia Festival.

The Music Society has announced that Maestro Conlon will be undergoing surgery and will be unable to conduct the concert. Replacing him is Raymond Leppard.

Leppard is a name that almost every music lover will recognize immediately from his excellent collaboration with the English Chamber Orchestra. Maestro Leppard has also conducted orchestras such as the Chicago Symphony and the New York Philharmonic.

The concert will include music by Britten and Mozart.

The venue is Sherwood auditorium August 23rd at 7:30 pm with a pre-concert interview of Maestro Leppard at 6:30 pm.
