Forgive, and forget the cash

La Jolla Democratic congressman Scott Peters, who beat the GOP’s Brian Bilbray in a hard-fought race last year, spent plenty of his own cash in the process. With wealthy wife Lynne Gorguze on his side, Peters began making personal loans to his campaign early and often. And now, the congressional freshman has officially declared he won’t be getting any of it back. “Personal loans were made by me, the Candidate, in the amount of $1,350,000.00 on 9/04/12 and 9/14/12,” Peters recently reported to the Federal Election Commission. “On 12/31/2012, a total amount of $1,250,000.00 was forgiven by me, the Candidate, and converted to contributions to my committee.” In addition, “Personal loans were made by me, the Candidate, in the amount of $1,250,000 on May 3, 2012, May 10, 2012, & May 16, 2012. On 6/30/2012 a total amount of $1,000,000 was forgiven by me, the Candidate, and converted to contributions to my committee.”
