A sexual assault suspect was captured in Ocean Beach early on the morning of October 28, hiding out in the backyard of the victim he allegedly had just attacked.

The victim was reportedly sleeping on her couch at about quarter till six when the suspect came in through an unlocked back door and began groping her. She woke up, pushed the perpetrator away, ran to the bathroom, and locked herself inside before calling 911, according to SDPD officer Brian Goldberg.

The suspect, whose name has not yet been released, is a large, bald, Hispanic male. He reportedly passed out in the  back of the police car after his arrest. Officer Goldberg said he may be a suspect in similar incidents in the neighborhood.

The apartment of the victim — also the residence of two female roommates — is on the ground floor in the 2100 block of Abbott, where it crosses Voltaire Street.

There has been an increase of sexual assaults in Ocean Beach during the past few months. Another sexual assault suspect was arrested a week and a half ago; he is still in custody.
