Point Loma Seafoods Builds New Lighthouse, Reopens

Point Loma Seafoods reopened its newly refurbished building on March 19. The eatery and seafood market — open since 1963 — had moved to a nearby temporary location while their premises underwent a major remodel.

According to the Port of San Diego website, the port board approved an estimated $2.7 million in renovations. Point Loma Seafoods then "demolished their existing building and replaced it with a new building designed in the Monterey, California, Cannery Row style." More space has been set aside for the outdoor dining area, which now includes a fire pit.

In addition to an update on the kitchen, a second-story viewing terrace offers views of San Diego Bay, Shelter Island, and the ocean. Adjacent to the entrance of the store is a Point Loma Lighthouse knock-off, seemingly a miniaturized version of the real thing.

Here's hoping the new design and remodel of Point Loma Seafoods incorporated additional parking spaces, as that part of the dining experience has often been problematic.
