Color of Jerry Brown's Money

Democratic governor Jerry Brown continues to pick up San Diego money for his various causes. Among the latest big donors: software maker Intuit, with $20,000 to Brown’s 2014 reelection campaign, and the Barona Band of Mission Indians, a big casino operator, with $25,000 for Brown’s upcoming ballot measure to raise state sales and income taxes. Meanwhile, some local nonprofits have contributed to the governor’s California State Protocol Foundation to help pay for his December conference on “Extreme Climate Risks and California’s Future.” Held in San Francisco, the event “focused on the threats of unpredictable and extreme weather events on the state’s economy, business sectors, public health and natural resources. Attendees discussed the best ways to prepare and protect our state and adapt to these growing risks.” The San Diego Foundation’s “Climate Smart Fund” kicked in $5000 and UCSD’s California Sea Grant program came up with $10,000. Biggest donor of all was one of Eli and Edythe Broad’s foundations, with $100,000.
