Bob Filner Picks Up Sizeable Change

In his final quarter of collecting congressional campaign funds before he announced for mayor, Democrat Bob Filner picked up sizable change from a variety of contributors, some with San Diego interests. Pauline Foster, mother-in-law of Customs chief Alan Bersin and a major downtown property owner, gave $500. Mark A. Covarrubias of Chula Vista’s M.C. Contracting Services gave $2500. R. Michael Murphy of San Diego’s Murphy Development kicked in $1000. General Dynamics, which owns National Steel and Shipbuilding, gave $1000. And Frank Carrillo, chief executive of Simnsa Health Plan, which sets up U.S. workers with “cross-border” health-care plans in Mexico, gave $2500.
