Democratic San Diego city-council candidate Howard Wayne has finally shut down his “Howard Wayne for State Senate 2012” campaign committee. According to an October 6 filing with the California secretary of state’s office, the group was terminated September 30…According to research by MAPLight.org — a nonpartisan website dedicated to “shining a light on the influence of money on politics” — San Diego Democrat Marty Block ranked second among assembly members in total campaign contributions received between July 1, 2008, and June 30, 2010, raking in a total of $3,057,601. That was only slightly behind the number-one assembly fund-raiser, Democrat V. Manuel Pérez of Indio, with $3,091,435. According to the MAPLight survey, general trade unions were Block’s top donors, with $180,300. Then came public-sector unions, including the California Teachers Association and Association of California State Supervisors, with $113,902. Lawyers and lobbyists came up with $73,797, and tribal governments provided $23,600…GOP assemblyman Nathan Fletcher has accepted $2900 from banking behemoth JPMorgan Chase & Co. General Atomics, maker of the Predator drone, gave him $1000. Fletcher also received $2760 from SeaWorld…Lisa Schmidt, district representative for termed-out Democratic state senator Denise Ducheny, took in a Padres game last April 21 at a Petco Park suite, with tickets for two worth $220 from AT&T.
