Donovan’s Steak and Chop House, the San Diego–based chain of meat eateries, is prepared to admit that it failed to disclose its political contributions by not filing a so-called major donor report as required by state law, according to a stipulation agreement posted on the FPPC website. The $27,101 of inadequately reported contributions, all of which were made in 2008, included $5400 to the San Diego Restaurant and Beverage Political Action Committee and a total of $4901 to the county’s Republican Party. Donovan’s, which has restaurants in San Diego, Phoenix, and Salt Lake City, is run by Chargers booster Dan Shea, who long has advocated a new taxpayer-financed stadium for the team. The company has agreed to pay a $2230 fine to the state’s Fair Political Practices Commission to settle the matter, to be taken up by the commission at its next meeting on May 13. … San Diego City Council members continue to use free tickets to baseball games at Petco Park to curry favor with constituents. On April 17, Councilman Ben Hueso gave 2 admissions to the Dolores Magdaleno Memorial Recreation Council; on April 14, Marti Emerald handed out 26 tickets to the Crawford High School baseball team.
