Carpenters Union at 6th and B

On May 7th, several members of the Carpenters Local 1506 Union set up banners in front of 600 B St. in downtown San Diego. They were set up in front of the building next to the curb and stayed there for normal business hours. They provided handouts to people passing by and entering and exiting the building. According to information on their handout, they are objecting to Pacific Building Group’s work on Bridgepoint’s new office. The union claims that Pacific Building Group does not meet area labor standards, including providing for family health care and pension for all of their immigrant carpenter craft employees.

The union claims that Bridgepoint has an obligation to the community to see that area labor standards are met for construction work on their new office and that they should not be able to insulate themselves behind independent contractors. They are urging the public to contact Bridgepoint and suggest that they choose another building company for their project.
