Record Release Roundup

The Secret Seven’s release party for their first album, Turn Your Back to the Sea, takes place Saturday at Brick by Brick. “We’ll be playing the entire record, front to back,” says singer-guitarist Zach Goode, “trying to re-create all the sounds with backup singer Shani Ayanna and a 17-year-old violin prodigy. I’ll be opening the show by playing piano with my new side project, performing Tom Waits songs.”

On Thursday, July 29, Manic Diffusion is having a release party at Winstons in O.B. for their new acoustic EP On the Rocks. The same evening, Kenseth Thibideau of Sleeping People premiers his solo CD Repetition at the Tin Can Ale House.

The fourth album from Danielle LoPresti and the Masses, the 22-track Run with It, debuts with a July 30 concert at Queen Bee’s in North Park. It’s LoPresti’s first release distributed by big-time Universal, thanks to a recent deal signed with Trevino Music Group. “So our new album is now technically, legally, a major-label release,” says LoPresti. “Are we still indie in heart and soul? Absolutely. This contract is not a recording deal, meaning we still have full artistic control over our material.”

Other locals with new releases include Jamuel Saxon (The Prolly Shores) and their Golden Hill–based front man Keith Milgaten (Landmines & Chandeliers), as well as the hip-hop heroes of South Psycho Cide (Rest in Peace Big Yikes) and psychedelic space warriors Maquiladora (Wirikuta).

Endoxi’s CD-release party for Earthbound will be an all-ages affair on Friday, August 6, at the Epicentre in Mira Mesa. On the same night, Louisa West with Jimmy Patton and Friends debut their new album Sambarina with a show at Dizzy’s downtown.

Promising no more onstage meltdowns, Wavves debuts his new full-length King of the Beach on August 12 at the Museum of Contemporary Art San Diego, on Kettner. The debut full-length from retro rockers River City premiers with an August 27 gig at the Ruby Room.
