Stand-in money

UCSD political science professor Peter Gourevitch, who has taken over as acting dean of the university’s School of International Relations and Pacific Studies while full-time dean Peter Cowhey is away on extended leave advising the Obama administration on trade policy, is making a pretty decent salary. According to recently released documents, Gourevitch’s annual base salary is $216,583, plus an additional $7200 in “stipend, add-ons, etc.” for a total of $223,783. The appointment was effective August 1, 2009, and runs through January 31, 2010. According to a database of UC salaries maintained by the Orange County Register, that’s significantly higher than Cowhey’s annual pay rate for 2007, which totaled just $201,921. In addition to his professorial duties, last year Gourevitch hosted a weekly show on the university’s TV station about the nation’s presidential campaign. … San Diego County’s Republican Party has been raking in some late-summer cash. The Bahia Resort Hotel, owned by the wealthy Evans family, gave $6839.50 on August 20; the same day, Sempra Energy kicked in $2500. On July 15, GOP mayor Jerry Sanders appointed Evans Hotels chief financial officer Robert Gleason, a Democrat, to the regional airport authority board.
