Palm Tree Down

A less-than-successful effort of a Tijuana resident to remove a palm tree resulted in the local fire department’s required assistance in a neighborhood approximately 12 miles east of central Tijuana on the afternoon of September 1.

The resident, who preferred to remain anonymous, succeeded in downing the unwanted palm, but when the tree toppled onto a nearby power line, neighbors summoned the fire department personnel for assistance.

Using a chainsaw, rope, and other instruments to prevent the tree from dragging down power lines and poles, after 15 minutes the tree was halved and then quartered once on the ground.

Both the Tijuana fire department and utility company recommend that residents of Tijuana contract tree-removal experts when attempting to remove any tree taller than the height of electrical lines.
