This edition of Acoustic Evenings at the Athenaeum features former Padres star Tim Flannery. By late 2014, he had officially retired from his job as third base coach for the San Francisco Giants to focus on his growing career as a singer-songwriter. The son of a Kentucky preacher man plays an acoustic blend of folk and country music. Also appearing will be Bobo Czarnowski, Drew Cady, and host Jefferson Jay.

Pete “Pops” Escovedo at Music Box April 13

Iconic percussionist Pete “Pops” Escovedo made several albums with the Carlos Santana band and with his daughter Sheila E, as well as recording and performing with an epic array of talents including Prince, Herbie Hancock, Dionne Warwick, George Duke, and Boz Scaggs. In what’s being billed as Escovedo’s final San Diego concert, he’ll be accompanied by Myron McKinley, who served as Musical Director for Earth Wind & Fire.

Orion Song is a solo performer who got his start writing acoustically off of a baritone ukulele. His music melds old and new hip-hop and R&B, with tastes of trap, lo-fi, jazz, and soul. Not conforming to one genre, he cites diverse inspirations such as Justin Timberlake, Usher, Nujabes, Bryson Tiller, and Craig David.

Jeff Berkley & the Banned at Belly Up April 17

Jeff Berkley made his mark locally as both a producer and one half of Berkley Hart. He has a new Jeff Berkley & the Banned album called Tumbleweed, with a single and video now available for the track “Even the Cowboys.” He’ll be introducing the new music in Solana Beach on an all-local bill that includes Dead Rock West, Kimmi Bitter, Jerry Raney, and more.
