A week of Nancarrow, Gregory Page, Charles McPherson, Marujah, and Mike Pinto

Country rock band Nancarrow is fronted by Graham Nancarrow, whose father was a well-known local newscaster/ecologist, the late Loren Nancarrow. Graham formed a punk band while at La Costa Canyon High, Misled Citizen, and later played with Big.50 and Grass. The Solana Beach bill includes Americana blues rocker Ash Easton, whose third studio album Rough & Tough was released last year.

Java Joe’s presents Gregory Page, who has performed everywhere from London’s 02 Arena to multiple international music festivals, and has opened for the likes of Bob Dylan, Leon Russell, Judy Collins, Chris Isaak, and Jason Mraz. He’s released over 20 solo albums since 1990, recorded eight albums as a member of the Rugburns and the Hatchet Brothers, and produced music for artists including Jason Mraz and Tom Brosseau.

Charles McPherson at JAI at the Conrad Sept 10

Marujah at the Casbah Sept 11

Originally based in Nashville, Marujah melds street music and political commentary, sung in English and Spanish. They took home San Diego Music Awards for Best World Music Album twice in four years. Their new album Hollywood Kids was produced by the band with Charles Colletti and is so far preceded by a single for “Creature of the Carnival.” They’ll debut it on a Little Italy bill that includes Manganista and Beta 7.

Mike Pinto at Winstons Beach Club Sept 14

“My shows have a big energy, with the organ and horns blaring at all times,” says Mike Pinto, who grew up in a suburb of Philadelphia called Fairless Hills. His music blends reggae, ska, dub, and Latin rhythms, while keeping true to his roots with the acoustic guitar. The OB concert will be opened by Aaron Wolf and B-Foundation.
