Tell us lies Dallas McLaughlin, go down under Schizophonics, play it again David J, RIP Dane Terry and Otis Barthoulameu

Dallas McLaughlin was known as Dr. Cliff Mixtable when he was in the local rap spoof Bad Credit, who toured with the Aquabats, a ska band that dressed like superheroes for The Aquabtas! Super Show. McLaughlin also wrote animated segments for that TV show, as well as contributing music to Nickelodeon’s Yo Gabba Gabba, co-created by the Aquabats’ Christian Jacobs. His first standup LP An Evening of This! debuted on the Apple Music Comedy charts at number nine. He’ll follow-up in April with a new LP called I Didn’t Start the Fire (And Other Lies).

Founded in 2009, the Schizophonics play fuzzy, psychedelic rock. Their new album Hoof It was recorded by Dean Reis (Plosivs, Rocket From The Crypt) at Singing Serpent studio and mixed by Steve Kaye at Sun King Studios. The album was preceded by singles for the title track, “Desert Girl,” “Under The Moonlight,” “Creature,” and a video and single for “Won Your Love.” They’re currently preparing to tour Australia and New Zealand.

David J. Haskins, better known as David J, was the bassist for the gothic British rock band Bauhaus and a co-founder of Love and Rockets. To celebrate its 30th anniversary, David J’s album Urban Urbane will be released for the first time on vinyl on Record Store Day, April 22. The reissue comes as a 2xLP gatefold record, with a second LP of unreleased outtakes, demos, and a download code. The outtakes feature guests appearances by T-Bone Burnett, Steven Perkins (Jane’s Addiction), and covers of tracks by T-Rex and John Cale.

Bassist, harmonica player, and singer Dane Terry was killed in a February 13 motorcycle accident. He also performed in a duo with Chris Clarke (a bandmate from Zapf Dingbats), as well as being a veteran of acts such as Snakedrivers, A 5th of Blues, Jukeville, Jack City Blues Band, and Cadillac Wreckers. He has also performed with Jeffrey Joe Morin, Gregory Page, Rusty Jones, Folding Mr. Lincoln, Robin Henkel, Chet Cannon, and others.

Otis Barthoulameu, aka O, has passed away. The singer-guitarist, photographer, and skateboard enthusiast also played with Makeup Sex, Systems Officer, and Olivelawn, among others. “He tour managed lots of bands from the UK when they came to play in SD,” recalls Casbah operator Tim Mays. “He was the guitar master of loud heavy chords.” Barthoulameu also wrote and arranged for various artists, and he helped Blink 182 secure their first record deal, producing records for them including their 1995 EP They Came To Conquer... Uranus.
