Lead Pony and Black Market III debut albums, Slightly Stoopid plays the ballpark, Tourmaliners rock Bay Park, Tolan Shaw serenades Del Mar

Lead Pony at Music Box July 13

Psych/blues rock group Lead Pony released their debut EP Eclipse in 2017, followed the next year by a double-single, “Two Love Songs.” The band toured behind the records and landed a song on the TV show Shameless. They’ll debut their Vultures full-length, recorded with producer Trevor Spencer (Fleet Foxes, Father John Misty, Beach House), in Little Italy July 13, on a bill that includes Ten Bulls and Moondaddy.

Black Market III at Hacienda on the Hill July 15

Formed by Scottie “Mad Dog” Blinn in-between recording and touring with the Mississippi Mudsharks, Black Market III (originally known as Black Market Baby) plays hard-hitting, soulful blues, and Americana roots music. Blinn’s tenure fronting the Mudsharks includes multiple San Diego Music Awards and nominations (three wins, twelve nominations), and several European blues chart topping CDs. Black Market III will debut their new record Soul Survivor in Lakeside on July 15, with opening act Stephen El Rey.

Slightly Stoopid at Petco Park July 16

Ska-flavored pop-punkers Slightly Stoopid made their concert debut in 1994 at Soma. Formed in Ocean Beach, the band specializes in a fusion of acoustic rock, blues, reggae, hip-hop, and punk. A few months ago, their single “Closer to the Sun” was awarded a Gold disc by the RIAA. Their headline appearance at the East Village ballpark July 16 includes Sublime With Rome. Atmosphere, and The Movement.

The Tourmaliners at Tio Leo’s July 18

The Tourmaliners (pronounced Tur-Mo-LEEN-ers) are fronted by Deven Berryhill, the son of Bob Berryhill, founding member and guitarist of the ‘60s surf rock group the Surfaris. Their 12-inch vinyl Surfidia just dropped via Pacific/Sharawaji Records, along with a music video for the album track “Swanky” featuring Eddie Angel from Los Straitjackets. They’re playing an outdoor show on July 18 in Bay Park, as well as a Five Year Anniversary celebration on July 21 at Oceanside’s Moose Lodge.

Tolan Shaw at L’Auberge Del Mar July 19

Smooth serenader Tolan Shaw is best known as a member of The New Archaic, who won Best New Artist at the 2009 San Diego Music Awards. After winning first place as Best Songwriter at the San Diego County Fair in Del Mar, Shaw took off on a songwriting journey through Latin America, traveling through 11 countries and 72 cities. He recently released a five song EP called Little Moon, the nickname of his five month-old daughter Dela, which he’ll showcase in Del Mar July 19.
