Sun Room single, Allison Adams Tucker video, Burt Bacharach collection, Keni Yarbro cover, Israel Maldonado performance

Sun Room was founded in 2020 by Long Beach transplant Luke Asgian, while attending Point Loma Nazarene University. Their music has been heard on the Netflix program Outerbanks. An upcoming EP called Outta Their Minds is so far preceded by a single for “Cadillac.” “It’s short and sweet with unhinged vocals and guitars,” says singer Luke Asgia, “reminiscent of early ‘60s British Invasion bands. The song is exciting, fast, and intentionally unpolished, especially the unruly outro that seems to go about 200 miles per hour.” They’ll play Soma on February 3.

A music video for Allison Adams Tucker’s single “The Wind,” from her new EP 1977: Retro Trilogy, was shot on the Big Island of Hawaii. “Producer Matt Pierson put together an amazing band for this project, and we laid down the tracks at Sear Sound NYC. We had a couple live performances before the studio sessions to get us ready for the music, including a show at the Blue Note New York.” The band features Kevin Hays (piano, melodica, vocals), Tony Scherr (bass), Kenny Wollesen (drums, vibes), Yotam Silberstein (guitar), Bashiri Johnson (percussion), and Peter Sprague (guitar).

The Songs of Bacharach & Costello collects all of the published songs that Elvis Costello has written with iconic composer Burt Bacharach. Due in early March, the 45-song set includes live recordings of Bacharach and Costello performing with orchestras in New York and London. Also featured are Bacharach and Hal David songs that Costello has performed and recorded, including “I’ll Never Fall In Love Again,” which Bacharach and Costello performed together in Austin Powers: The Spy Who Shagged Me.

Singer-guitarist Keni Yarbro performs jazz, R&B, Motown, classic rock, reggae, and island music. As an acoustic soloist, he specializes in inventive covers of deep cuts from artists such as Steely Dan, Al Jarreau, Steve Perry, Boz Skaggs, and Stevie Wonder. He appears Friday, January 27, at La Valencia Hotel in La Jolla.

Israel Maldonado has been performing professionally for over three decades, playing in Latin-influenced local bands such as Agua Dulce, Sambrasil, and Sol E Mar. He also teaches guitar, bass, and Latin drumming, including Brazilian and AfroCuban percussion. He’s been performing solo around town, hosting open mics, and playing in Puente and a trio called Tres con Todo. He appears Friday, January 27, at Mission Bay Resort.
