Will Chula Vista students ever give up their masks?

I asked fifteen teenagers at school and virtually from schools across Chula Vista to share some reasons why they are choosing to wear masks.

At Mater Dei, Haylee, 18, said she is "absolutely terrified of getting Covid-19... what terrifies me most is having it and spreading it to others without knowing."

Angie, 18: "There are some members of my family who I know that if they caught it would not survive or at least become hospitalized."

Talia, 18: "many of [her] friends take care of grandparents, other elders, and pregnant women."

Alaisa, 17: masks "simply make [her] feel more secure."

Sasha, 17: "With my mask on, I don’t have to worry about making a lot of facial expressions."

Jackson, 15, jokes that "masks give [him] acne, but also block it!"

Hilltop High School student Elizabeth, 17: "staying healthy is important."

Taylor, 16, talked about being in top shape for sports: "A mask is a small sacrifice for staying protected."

Marita, 15, from Hilltop: it has become "a habit to have one on."

Victory Christian student Jenna, 17: "I like the idea of not getting sick and spreading anything to others. Wearing it has also become a habit!"

Isabella from Hilltop, 16, is "still worried about the spread of Covid" and she "doesn't know everything that happens in the classroom such as where people have been."

Ysabella, 16, shares, "I mostly wear it indoors because I could still put other people at risk."

Inez, 17: only wears masks when she's in "crowded areas with lots of people around"

Ivanna, 15: "When I'm in a crowd with lots of people without a mask, I'll wear my mask just in case."

Adrianna, 17, from Mater Dei: "If I'm in a close confined space with someone who chooses to wear a mask, I will wear my mask as well out of respect."
