Band goes from Village People to Boat People after Pride shaming

In the (Trump) Navy

Make America Gay Again? The Village People get ready to ship out for the recent Republican Regatta.

“It started with the Cop, of course,” says the Village People’s Biker. “Didn’t matter that he’s black. San Diego Pride said that law enforcement could no longer have a contingent at the Pride Parade, because ‘their presence feels threatening to people who fear the systemic and institutional racism that puts targets on their back.’ And since it’s the uniform that’s the problem and not the man himself, Cop was out. It’s a pity; we were looking forward to performing a throwback show in the town that inspired us to write both ‘YMCA’ and ‘In the Navy.’ We talked about just dressing him up as a friendly Scout leader, but that led to some...awkward conversations. And before we could get any further, Pride sent over a note saying that it’d be best if we stayed away altogether. It seems Soldier represents America’s readiness to use military force on its own citizens a la Tom Cotton’s NYT fantasy op-ed. And Indian ‘smacks of the worst sort of cultural appropriation.’ Cowboy, of course, stands for genocidal violence against indigenous people, while Construction Worker embodies capitalist exploitation of the working underclass. Me, they were okay with, but I’m more into solidarity than solo, you know? And then, when Trump’s SCOTUS appointee Gorsuch wrote that awesome majority opinion declaring that gay and trans rights are civil rights — well, we realized it was time to rethink our allegiances. We could side with the party that has enough showbiz appreciation to elect a game show host as President, or we could side with the wokescolds who would just as soon forget who started the whole mainstreaming of homosexuality in this country.”
