Padres pitcher will be tried July 2

San Diego Padres left-hand reliever Jose Torres (aka Jose Marcos Torres Muro) is scheduled to be tried for criminal assault in Phoenix’s Maricopa County Superior Court July 2. He has a hearing June 18 before Judge Peter Thompson. It’s possible the case will be settled before July, according to Bryan Bouchard, spokesman for the court.

In late December, Torres was charged with criminal assault and criminal damage. According to the Arizona Republic, Torres pointed a gun at his wife following an argument. He allegedly kicked open a laundry door, causing an injury to his wife’s leg. He pleaded guilty to those charges March 27. He was also charged with substance abuse. That is scheduled to be heard August 1st.

The Padres say that he is on the team’s “restricted” list.
