Dad embezzled $275,000 from Disney ship
Will the fact that he spent $35,000 at Disney World help his case?
Renan Dias Da Rocha Gomes, a citizen of Brazil, was arraigned in federal court yesterday (October 30) on a charge of embezzling $275,000 from the Walt Disney Company.
He was a host in merchandise stores onboard the Disney Wonder cruise ship. According to the government's complaint, Gomes made $275,000 in unauthorized charges to Disney's bank account and then loaded the value of the funds into Disney gift cards.
Between April 23 and May 7 of this year, Gomes spent $35,000 of the embezzled funds on the card to take his family to Disney World. Gomes was interviewed by Disney investigators this month. He was arrested by federal agents when the ship docked in San Diego October 27.
