Jobs-dropping September in San Diego County

The unemployment rate in San Diego County in September was 4.1 percent, down from a revised 4.7 percent in August and down from 4.6 percent a year ago, according to the California Employment Development Department. This was the same as the national rate, 4.1 percent, and well below the 4.7 percent of California in the same period.

However, the county lost 1300 non-farm jobs in September. Leisure and hospitality jobs dropped 3200 as the summer tourist season ended. Local government jobs rose by 4600, greatly because of school populations growing following the summer.

The rate in the City of San Diego was just 3.9 percent in the month; El Cajon was 5.9 percent, Chula Vista 5.2, and Imperial Beach 6.4.
