How about Coronado’s “Zee Huis”?

A trend of endowing mansions with fanciful and often foreign names seems to be emerging among San Diego’s mega-rich. Many may be familiar with La Jolla’s Foxhill estate, former home of the local publishing magnate Copley family, but how about Coronado’s “Zee Huis”?

Dutch for “sea house,” Zee Huis “is a one of a kind, three-building compound which overlooks the San Diego harbor and offers one of the best views of the city’s skyline. During the day it boasts a panoramic view of sailboats and other harbor activity. At night, lights from the San Diego skyline waft across the rippling water to create a multi-colored dance of lights.”

The gated complex at 709-711 1st Avenue includes eight bedrooms and eleven baths, with more than 7200 square feet of living area under roof. Luxury appointments in the “stunning” nine-room main residence include a living room with “a fifteen-foot powered disappearing Fleetwood sliding glass doors that offer an unobstructed view of the harbor and the San Diego skyline” along with a “warm and inviting pub adorned with French polished mahogany panel walls” and “includes a wet bar, additional refrigeration, icemaker and wine cooler....

Public records identify the current owner of Zee Huis as J. Scott Benson, CEO at tech firm Infinetics. The home was last reported sold in May of 2014 for $10,450,000 — it carried an asking price of $14.9 million at the time.

The home was re-listed this April, and the asking price — which includes all furniture — remains unchanged to date at $13,900,000.
