Saxophonist Drew Ceccato and his quintet perform Roscoe Mitchell’s Nonaah at UC San Diego’s Conrad Prebys Music Center Experimental Theater with Kyle Motl, Tommy Babin, Judith Hamann, and T.J. Borden at 7 p.m. Free concert.

Trumpeter Gilbert Castellanos has two gigs at Panama 66, beginning at 6 p.m. when he hosts the Young Lions Series outside on the patio. At 8:30 p.m., everyone heads inside to the Copley Auditorium where he leads the jam session until 11:30. All ages, musicians and artists are welcome. No cover, no minimum.

Thursday 6

The First Thursday Jazz Jam featuring Gary Rich on trumpet with Antar Martin on bass, Jason Shatill on piano and Fernando Gomez on drums goes down at Bourre from 6:30 to 9:00 p.m. No cover.

The Danny Green Trio with Justin Grinnell and Julien Cantelm perform at the Merc (42051 Main Street in Temecula) at 7:30 p.m. for a $15 admission… The Matt Smith Neu Jazz Trio with Ed Kornhauser and Mackenzie Leighton play Harbor Music Hall (1502 India Street) from 7 to 10 p.m. $15 gets you inside.

Friday 7

Holly Hofmann celebrates the second year of her Happy Hour Series at the Handlery Hotel with an all-star group including Gilbert Castellanos, Antar Martin, Duncan Moore and many others at 5:30 p.m. No cover, no minimum, validated parking.

Saxophonist Joe Lovano comes to town with a quartet featuring Leo Genovese, Peter Slavov, and Lamy Istrefi to play the Athenaeum Jazz at TSRI at 7:30 p.m. Tickets run $35 general, $30 members, $15 student rush… The Mackenzie Leighton Trio with Jarien Jamanilla, and Matthew Smith perform at Harbor Music Hall from 7:30 to 10:30 p.m. $15 cover.

The Christopher Hollyday Bebop Quintet with Derek Cannon, Jason Shattil, Rob Thorsen and Duncan Moore play Dizzy’s from 8 p.m. Tickets run $20 cash at the door.

Saxophonist Mark Lessman and guitarist Peter Hix play in duo at Ki’s Restaurant (2591 S. Coast Highway) from 7:30 to 9:30 p.m. Admission is free with dinner, otherwise, a $10 cover applies.

Saturday 8

The Coronado Flower Show features the Coronado Big Band with Tokeli in Spreckel’s Park on Orange Avenue at noon.

Come see Peter and the Wolf Jazzed Up with Rob Thorsen, Steph Johnson, Faith Ismay Jenson and Jerry Hagar at the Chula Vista Library from 2:00 to 3:30 p.m. Free concert.

Joe Garrison & Night People make a rare concert to celebrate their latest CD, The People Upstairs with Ariana Warren, Lori Bell, Derek Cannon, Brian O’ Donnell, Jane Zwerneman, Melonie Grinnell, Tim McNalley, and Michael Hayes at Dizzy’s at 8 p.m. $20 cash at the door.

The Saturday Spotlight theme is April in Paris with Allison Adams Tucker, Joe Amato and Richard Sellers at the Westgate Hotel Plaza Bar from 8 to 11 p.m. $20 food/drink minimum.

The Rob Thorsen Trio with Joshua White and Richard Sellers play the First Christian Church of Oceanside in Oceanside from 3 to 4:30 p.m. for a $10 suggested donation.
