Cop allegedly didn't seek sex from women only

A San Diego man who was allegedly sexually assaulted by former San Diego police officer Christopher Hays will receive $160,000 in exchange for settling his lawsuit against the city.

On Tuesday, November 16, city councilmembers are expected to give final approval needed to pay Trent Veasey from the city’s Public Liability Fund. The approval comes nearly two weeks after councilmembers discussed the settlement during an October 25 closed session hearing.

The case dates back to December 19, 2013, when Veasey was walking near the 5000 block of El Cajon Boulevard. Officer Hays reportedly stopped Veasey and gave him an ultimatum: be charged with a crime or perform oral sex on him. Veasey says he was forced to choose the latter.

Veasey filed a claim with the City of San Diego in March 2014, one month after Hays resigned from the police force due to allegations of sexually assaulting multiple women while on duty.

Hays pleaded guilty in August 2014. He was released from prison after serving 5 months of his 12-month sentence.

Despite Hays's admission, the city's Risk Management Department rejected Veasey's claim. In December 2014 he filed a lawsuit in federal court.

The settlement is in addition to the $1 million legal settlement that the city paid two women who were also assaulted by Hays.
