SDSU President Hirshman demands resignation of students calling for his resignation

Protestors blocked Hirshman’s physical progress and forced him to retreat to the safety of a police patrol car. Pinned against the wall, he remained there for over an hour before submitting to the mob’s demands and issuing an apology. Afterwards, he called the experience “harrowing” and “frightening.” “They were shouting and chanting and calling for my head — figuratively, anyway. A university campus is no place for this kind of intellectual mugging."

Neumann. “This is damaging and hurtful,” said Hirshman in a statement issued today. “I have a job to do, and I can’t do it effectively in this kind of hostile environment. These protestors have an obligation to this institution to either cease or get off campus.”

San Diego State University President Elliot Hirshman spoke out today against protestors who have been calling for his resignation ever since he failed to strongly condemn a series of fliers distributed on campus by the conservative speaker David Horowitz, who had been invited by the campus’s Republican Club.
