River rescue teams stayed busy in deluge

— Body recovery at Prospect Av & Cuyamaca; SDC Sheriff 5&4 River on scene; Body turned over to M.E.

— Call box call for two surfers possibly in distress off Pappy’s Point. 1 Sam, Jet 2, 2 Sam and lifeguard rescue vessel respond. 1 Sam crew effects 2 rescues and there are no injuries, all units clear.

— Possible jumper on the West Mission Bay Bridge. PD is the RP no visual from LGHQ, PD and lifeguards respond. Nothing found RP through PD states the person walked away/clear.

— HP impounded the vessel from the transient slips after it was abandoned.

— HP called to a vessel that broke free from its mooring ball within the Laurel Street Anchorage during a small craft advisory. HP found the vessel, secured it and had it towed/stored for the owner.

— Vehicle in water at Nimitz; 1&5 River at scene; Clear.

— Vehicle in water at Clairemont Mesa Blvd; 3 River responds, clear.

— HP dispatched to the Americas Cup Harbor to investigate a report of identity theft.

— 5 Vehicles trapped with moving water at Convoy; 5&3 River respond; Vehicles cleared by RRT.

— Person in vehicle; 4 River responds.

— 2 persons in river at Fairmont & Montezuma; 4&5 River respond; people out of water, Fire handle Med aid.

— 2 Vehicles in water 1person on vehicle at Convoy; 3 River at scene; Clear.

— Man trapped in house at 3322 Logan Ave; 1,5&7 River respond, assist with extrication. PTs turned over to medics.

— Vehicle in water at Mission Gorge; 3&4 River respond assist with tow.

— 911 call reporting a vessel missed the Channel and is on the SMB side. 4 Sam, lifeguard rescue vessel and USCG helo respond. 4 Sam searches the beach and USCG helo lights and searches the water, unable to locate/clear.

— Man in Vehicle with moving water/Poway; 3&2 River respond and are cancelled; person clear.

— 2 persons in river, near Dave & Buster’s. Camino del Rio North; 3&4 River/Able/SDPD/SDFD Special Ops/Copter 2 on scene; 2 1159’s transported by medics.

— Vehicle in water at Ward Rd; 1 River responds and is cancelled, clear.

— Person in a wheelchair in the river; 3 River responds; 1 rescue.

— Vehicle in water; 2&1 River respond; 2 cars pushed from intersection.

— HP issued a citation to a subject that was not permitted to be in the Harbor Police transient slips

— Subject broke into a 85’ Hornblower vessel shortly after midnight and was able to start the vessel and remove it from the dock. The vessel was later discovered missing by employees and shortly after observed by them in the area of buoy #19. HPD was then notified and responded to the vessel. Upon reaching the vessel the suspect jumped into the water in an attempt to escape. Suspect picked up by the HP vessel and subsequently arrested for numerous violations.

— HP responded to and investigated a small diesel fuel spill in South Bay (Coronado Cays).

— HP stopped a small boat in the Commercial Basin for a registration violation. After conducting a safety inspection it was found that one of the subjects aboard had a warrant for his arrest.

San Diego Lifeguards are a 24-hour rescue agency whose responsibilities include water rescue, boat rescue, marine fire suppression, coastal cliff rescue, underwater search and recovery, swift water and flood search, rescue and emergency medical response. San Diego Lifeguards also handle enforcement of city, state and federal laws and regulations. Lifeguards are classified as peace officers with the power of arrest.
