Gilbert Castellanos has two gigs at Panama 66 (1450 El Prado). First, he hosts the Young Lions Series from 6 to 8 p.m. featuring emerging talent under the age of 25. Next up, he leads the jam session from 8:30 to 11:30 p.m. All ages welcome. No cover, no minimum.

Friday 8
Trumpeter Curtis Taylor holds court during the Happy Hour at the Handlery Hotel (950 Hotel Circle Drive) from 5:30 p.m. with Ed Kornhauser on piano and Dean Hulett on bass. No cover charge, validated parking… The Will Pierce Quartet plays 98 Bottles (2400 Kettner Boulevard) at 8 p.m. $13 at the door… The Robert Dove Quartet plays Croce’s Park West at 7 p.m. for a $10 cover.

Saturday 9
