Smorgasbord of party drugs intercepted at checkpoint

Border Patrol agents are trumpeting the seizure of what they're referring to as "a smorgasbord of drugs" at the San Clemente checkpoint along Interstate 5 on Monday, February 22.

The first checkpoint catch occurred shortly after 8 a.m., where a 1993 Toyota Camry was found to be carrying roughly "10,000 doses of MDMA (i.e. ecstasy), 9.35 pounds of crystal methamphetamine, 18.92 pounds of cocaine, and more than 77 ounces of brown heroin."

In the early afternoon, a 40-year-old Mexican national and his passenger consented to the search of their 1999 Nissan Pathfinder, resulting in the seizure of more than 10 pounds of crystal methamphetamine.

Officials estimate a street value in excess of $750,000 for all of the confiscated substances.
