High costs hurt San Diego's ranking in recent study

San Diego comes in 35th of 245 cities ranked as best for football fans, according to WalletHub, a statistics aggregator. But of the 31 NFL cities, 20 rank higher.

The cities are ranked on two major themes. One is teams and performance (including NFL and college teams), how well they perform, and franchise value of the pro teams. A second category is costs and fan engagement, which includes average NFL and college-ticket prices; number of sports bars per 100,000 residents; accessibility of stadiums; and home fan attendance. San Diego ranks 16th in teams and performance, but a lowly 194th in costs and fan engagement.

The best football city is Green Bay, Wisconsin. It is followed by Clemson, South Carolina; Pittsburgh; Tuscaloosa, Alabama; East Lansing, Michigan; and Denver.
