Two Door Cinema Club's last hurrah at Harrah's

Irish indie-pop act bids farewell to 2016

It was a smaller venue for Two Door Cinema Club’s reputation, and it was brimming with fans.

A final hurrah was given for Irish indie-pop band Two Door Cinema Club, as they performed their last concert of 2016, stopping at Harrah’s Resort SoCal in San Diego for a set of mild madness and energy.

The band, after a stimulating opener from New Zealand duo Broods, began with a few of their time-tested, well-known hits, livening the crowd and smoothly transitioning them into songs off Two Door Cinema Club’s newest album, Gameshow. The move was calculated, as Gameshow offers a throwback sound compared to the progressive indie of their first two albums, with less of the commercial success.

But the move worked.

“You guys are fuckin’ crazy,” lead singer Alex Trimble shouted into the microphone between songs.

The crowd, in response, gave a deafening roar that filled the room. It was a smaller venue for Two Door Cinema Club’s reputation, and it was brimming with fans. The lights and visuals were original, working in rhythm with the sound, and were nice to look without being distracting.

After a rocking set and ear-splitting encore, the band gave their final thank-yous of 2016 to their fans and their team.

“We’ll be back next year,” Trimble said.
