Public records indicate the residence is the second home of Rosemary Eichenfield, whose primary residence is in Paradise Valley, Arizona, a tony enclave of Phoenix. Her husband Samuel was at one time chief executive of commercial finance firm Finova, and the pair operated a nonprofit for some time in retirement.

The Eichenfields purchased the land where the home was built for $1.9 million in 2000 from William McColl, a San Diego native who played for the Chicago Bears in the 1950s before becoming a surgeon and eventually mounting three unsuccessful U.S. Congress campaigns as a Republican in both the Los Angeles and San Diego regions in the 1970s and 1980s.

The 1st Street estate was listed for the first time since the current home was constructed in late March and carries an asking price of $8.4 million that remains unchanged to date.
