A psychological thriller and an easy watch

David Bowie in Labyrinth

Donnie Darko (USA, 2001, New Market Films) is a psychological thriller. Jake Gyllenhaal is Donnie, a very attractive yet very troubled young man. Donnie has visions of Frank, a large demonic bunny rabbit who guides Donnie to uncover many dark truths about his community leading to his destiny of self-sacrifice in order to save humanity. The movie is a trip! Many conclusions can be drawn about the ending. I discover something new every time I watch it!

Labyrinth (USA/England),1986, TriStar) is definitely dated but it’s a light fantasy film directed by Jim Henson. I would say it’s a mix between The Muppets, Alice in Wonderland, and Wizard of Oz. The film stars Jennifer Connelly as the ingénue Sarah, who summons goblins to kidnap her baby brother. Sarah has only 13 hours to solve a labyrinth to save her brother from David Bowie, the Goblin King. Labyrinth is an easy watch with a catchy score composed by Bowie.
