Bassist Ben Wanicur hosts his monthly jam session at 3rd Space (4610 Park Boulevard) with Duncan Moore on drums and Jason Shattil on piano at 8:00 p.m. $5 at the door.

Wednesday 7
Trumpeter Gilbert Castellanos begins his busy night by presenting the Young Lions Series at Panama 66 (1450 El Prado) featuring young improvisers under the age of 25 at 6:00 p.m. Then, he switches gears and hosts the jazz jam session with Joshua White, Mackenzie Leighton, and Duncan Moore at 9:00 p.m. until midnight.

Thursday 8
They call themselves “The Nest Band You’ve Never Heard,” and they feature Kris Korsgaden, Matthew Smith, Mack Leighton, and Louis Valenzuela. Catch them at 98 Bottles (2400 Kettner Boulevard) at 8:00 p.m. $15 at the door … the AAA Celebration Series continues with Janet Hammer fronting a trio with Rob Whitlock and Charles Weller at Northern Spirits Jazz Club (727 West San Marcos Boulevard) at 7:00 p.m. no cover no minimum.

Friday 9
The Bobby Cressey Organ Trio featuring Ron Eschete and Tim McMahon play the Happy Hour at the Handlery Hotel (950 Hotel Circle North) at 5:30 p.m. no cover, no minimum, free parking.

Saturday 10
The Charlie Arbelaez and Matt Hall Birthday Quintet featuring Kei Akagi, Mack Leighton, and Duncan Moore set up at Croce’s Park West (2760 Fifth Avenue) from 7:00 p.m. for a $10 cover.

The Matt Smith Neu Jazz Trio with Ed Kornhauser and Mack Leighton play the Sunday jam session at 98 Bottles from 2:30 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. no cover, 21+ … the Zinchiladas with Alex Lopez, Barry Jacquess, Melanie Jacquess, and John Cunningham play the Farmer’s Market in Rancho Santa Fe (16079 San Dieguito Road ) from 9:30 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. Free.
